Passports and visas

When you choose Thompson's cruises you are choosing an experience of a lifetime. There are so many different ports of call that this cruise line can go and there is much information you should know before your cruise begins, such as information on passports and visas. Depending on where you live and on where you're going, the requirements for passports and visas differ.

British and non-British passports
If you live in Britain and you are a citizen there, then you will need a British passport that is good for 10 years and valid for six months after you return. This is required for all cruises that are featured even those that sail from the UK . The only exception is if you go on a one night sailing to and from UK ports. For this all you will need is a driver's license or a photo ID. Passport offices offer applicants of a passport that is almost expired to receive a credit of up to nine months under new ones. If you hold a British passport on a cruise holiday, you won't need individual visas for any of the destinations that are offered, with the exception of Russia . If you're not a British passport holder and you don't have the required visas for any of the countries that you're going to visit during the cruise, you can be denied boarding at the port of embarkation. Most of the countries that you visit relax the visa rules to visitors that arrive and depart on a cruise ship but is still your responsibility to check with the individual embassies. You will need a multiple entry visa to visit Greece .

Arab countries
When you cruise on the Thompson Cruise ships the guests are covered by a group visa in all the countries that are visited but this is only valid in Libya if you're taking part in group excursion. You can get a quick trip visa that is issued on board so that you can visit Jordan . You must keep in mind that if your passport shows a Israeli stamp this can stop you from entering some countries. If this happens then you have to stay onboard your ship and you should call the passport office for advice.

Egypt passports
If you're sailing with the Thomson's Spirit you will find that visas are not required for embarking in Sharm El Sheikh, but you can get a quick trip visa onboard the ship. Quick trip visas will be issued on board to allow you to visit Cairo . If you find that you want to extend your holiday and stay there a while, a visa will only be required if you decide to travel outside the Sinai Desert or if you go driving or sightseeing outside Sharm El Sheikh. You will be provided with the necessary visas when you arrive, but some nationalities are not able to obtain a visa on arrival or on the cruise and those that can't, can contact the Egyptian consulate.

Russia passport
Tourists that choose Thomson's cruise lines and have excursions planned on shore are covered a group visa. If you decide you want to go ashore independently you will need to purchase a visa from the Russian Federation Embassy prior to your cruise. The best thing you can do before traveling to check into all the requirements for passports and visas before you leave.
