Full Review:
Calypso is the smallest ship in the Thomson fleet. In heavy weather she rolls badly, so a cabin midships is highly recommended.
Service is excellent in all areas, staff are unfailingly friendly and take time to exchange greetings. Cabins are spacious and well appointed, although the hair dryers are useless - and because the voltage is 110, rather than 240, there is no point taking your own. All areas of the ship are squeaky clean, and staff take pride in keeping it that way. Unlike the Celebration there is no unseemly scrabble for sun loungers, there are plenty and ample space to put them. The entertainment team was the best we have ever seen - led by the able and charming Frank, every show was a joy. Although there is no 24 hour dining, gaps between food were brief, e.g. breakfast finished at 10am, followed by morning tea at 10.30, so if you sleep in, don't worry. Food was plentiful and interesting, with enough selection to satisfy most diners - although some people seem hard to please! Trips were well organised, with courtesy buses in place where the boat moored outside the towns. We enjoyed our trip on Santorini very much, led by a well informed lady, who gave us lots of interesting info about her beautiful island. Trips in Istanbul are a bit of a waste of time as the traffic is terrible and most attractions, such as the blue mosque and the bazaar are in easy walking distance, trams and taxis are cheap and reliable for the more adventurous.
Cruise Positives:
Istanbul was the highlight of the trip. Rhodes and Santorini were delightful.
A warm and friendly ship with excellent service from the staff.
Cruise Negatives:
Absolutely none - would do it again. Very minor point though - this is a small ship, so evening entertainment is a bit limited if you enjoy lively nightlife.
