Full Review:
Booked the cruise to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. From the offset the crew were extremely welcoming and friendly and everything was well organised. Had read some very disparaging reviews and so was a little apprehensive, but obviously if people look for faults they can be found. Yes, the ship could do with updating/ refurbishing in areas, and the cabins are of the compact and bijou variety (we were on Deck 2, inside cabin) - but so what? We spent little time in there. The cleanliness was first class, our towels were changed twice daily and the housekeeping staff were lovely. The chocolates and funny animals were a great touch! The shower was small but powerful enough and the water was hot. The other holiday makers we spoke to were like-minded and enjoyed the whole experience, with no complaints! We thought that the relaxed, friendly atmosphere was perfect and the crew were to be credited with helping to establish this. The entertainment team were entertaining and extremely versatile and talented. They encouraged participation without forcing the issue- the balance was just right. Their energy was infectious!
We decided not to book the tours, preferring to do our own thing and the cruise sheets and maps at Reception on the different ports were really useful and informative. We did then book a cycle tour around Naples and that was one of our highlights. There were just the two of us, (Naples being extremely hilly!) and Olly our guide was super. We saw parts of Naples we would never otherwise have seen- fabulous. A lady we met from the ‘Voyager of the Seas’ expressed regret that it was not offered to them. Well done, Thomson!! We recommended the cycling to others and many who decided to ‘give it a go’ also loved the experience.
We didn’t pay for the drinks package- not worth it unless you drink quite a lot. The drinks are normal pub prices so wine with the meal and a few cocktails a day didn’t equate to value in that package.
